The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has declared Musa Mubarak, a former Kogi State governorship candidate, wanted for failing to respond to police invitations. This action follows a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) two months ago, detailing how Mubarak, CEO of Almubee Group, allegedly took N153 million from seven clients without delivering the plots of land he promised them in the Wuye area of Abuja.
Mubarak, also known as Ojemanyareju and Emperor Almubee, is accused of obtaining money under false pretenses, cheating, and breach of trust. Despite receiving over N150 million from his clients, he failed to allocate the promised land over ten months later.
One victim, Abel Tama (not his real name), recounted his experience: “A coworker introduced me to the property, and I made a N20 million down payment, plus an additional N140,000 for documents like the survey plan. Later, I found out from the building control agency that Musa did not have the right to sell the land. The documents he used did not correspond with the actual location. We have tried to reach him several times, but he is not reachable. He defrauded us.”
While his clients waited for their properties, Mubarak contested and lost the Kogi State governorship election under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in 2023. During this period, he was also reported to have donated millions to the wife of the late musician Mohbad, who died under mysterious circumstances in September.
To date, Mubarak has not returned any portion of the N153 million down payment from his clients.
