However, the election faced international criticism, with the US, Germany, the UK, and other nations citing concerns over political oppression and censorship. Despite this, Putin dismissed allegations, focusing instead on geopolitical tensions.
During a post-election briefing, Putin emphasized the grave implications of escalating tensions, stating, “It is clear to everyone that this will be one step away from a full-scale World War Three. I think hardly anyone is interested in this.”
The warning came amidst rising tensions, notably French President Emmanuel Macron’s suggestion of potential ground troop deployment in Ukraine. Responding to Macron’s remarks and queries regarding conflict risks with NATO, Putin asserted, “Everything is possible in the modern world.”
Putin further highlighted NATO’s presence in Ukraine and asserted Russia’s readiness for nuclear war, particularly in response to potential US troop deployment. French President Macron cautioned against threats, especially considering Russia’s nuclear capabilities, expressing a lack of recent dialogue with Putin.
