In a distressing incident, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Oba Shedrack Durojaye Obibeni, the revered ruler of Idofin, and his wife along the Makutu-Idofin road in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Eyewitnesses from the area reported that the incident occurred in the evening around 5:30 pm on Monday while the Oba was traveling through the region.
According to local reports, the Oba’s vehicle was forcefully stopped by armed assailants, who subsequently abducted him and his wife, taking them into the nearby forest.
Mr. Tunde Ibrahim, the Director of Security of Okun Development Association (ODA), confirmed the incident through the association’s platform.
The Kogi State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, also verified the abduction and assured the public that efforts were underway to secure the safe release of the monarch and his wife.

SP Aya mentioned that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Adesina Yusuf, has deployed a joint operation involving the police force, other security agencies, hunters, and local vigilantes to track down the criminals and rescue the victims.
Assuring the public, the PPRO stated, “We are already on the trail of the abductors of the monarch and his wife. No cause for alarm. Men of the command, in synergy with other sister security operatives, hunters, and vigilantes are on the track of the hoodlums.”
