At least two youths were killed by unknown gunmen in Ogbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attack, which occurred near the Oyi River before the gunmen ascended into Ogbe Town, has left the community in mourning.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, carried out the killings without being apprehended by local security forces. A source, requesting anonymity, described the attackers as Fulani and noted that the victims were actively engaged in community work.

“It is a sad incident that has thrown the ancient town into mourning. Necessary activities are in top gear presently. Ogbe Town needs our prayers and support at this critical period,” the source said.

In response to the tragic event, Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, condemned the recent surge in banditry and kidnapping within the Yagba area. He reiterated his call for the establishment of state police and urged the Kogi State government to expedite the construction of the Egbe-Ogbe road to improve accessibility and security in the region.

Senator Karimi extended his condolences to the grieving families and the entire Ogbe community, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

When contacted, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP William Ovye Aya stated that the command had not yet received a report on the incident or confirmed its occurrence. The police are expected to investigate the situation further as details become available.
