In a distressing incident on the Inele-Eteke Ogugu new road in Kogi East Senatorial district, passengers traveling in two buses destined for Abuja were kidnapped. The affected buses, operated by GIG and ABC transport companies, were ambushed by unknown assailants, leading to the abduction of an unspecified number of passengers.

One of the targeted buses, belonging to GIG, commenced its journey from Umuahia at 7:30 am on Saturday. Following the incident, the GIG company promptly engaged security services and initiated tracking measures in an effort to locate and secure the kidnapped individuals.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Ayah, issued a statement on Monday. While acknowledging the abduction of passengers from two buses, Ayah refrained from specifying the exact number of individuals taken captive.

In response to the situation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha, has taken decisive action. An additional Tactical Squad, comprising the Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and conventional police personnel, has been deployed to the area. Their mission is to intensify efforts in combing the bush, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the safe and prompt rescue of all victims.

The development underscores the alarming security challenges faced by travelers on certain routes, prompting an urgent and robust response from law enforcement agencies to safeguard citizens and restore confidence in the affected region.
