Tragedy struck the community of Elepe, Ohi-Ogidi, in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, as Chief Ojo Olayinka, the traditional ruler, was brutally attacked and killed on his farm by suspected terrorists.

The lifeless body of Chief Olayinka was discovered on his farm after concerned relatives, noting his prolonged absence, initiated a search.

Responding swiftly to the incident, the state government urged residents of Ogidi and Ijumu Local Government Area to remain calm, assuring them of the commitment to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.

Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, conveyed the government’s condolences to the family of the deceased, emphasizing the state’s resolve to uphold security and protect its citizens.

“While we mourn the loss of our esteemed citizen, our resolve to bolster the security framework remains steadfast. We stand firm in our determination to ensure the safety of all residents,” Fanwo stated.

He urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, advocating for cooperation with security agencies and community leaders to combat criminal elements effectively.

The statement concluded with condolences extended to the immediate family of the deceased, the Ogidi community, and the people of Ijumu Local Government Area, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property in Kogi State.
