In a significant development for medical education and healthcare in Kogi State, the Reference Hospital Okene and the Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery Obangede have forged a partnership aimed at enhancing nursing education and providing valuable hospital experience to students.
During a cordial visit by the management team of the nursing college, led by Provost Mrs. Abraham O. Hannah, to the Reference Hospital, discussions revolved around the initiation of a collaboration that would revitalize the longstanding relationship between the former general hospital and the nursing college. The partnership focuses on comprehensive nursing training and practical hospital exposure.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Yahaya Bello for the establishment of the state-of-the-art Reference Hospital, the Provost commended the efforts of Prof. Solomon Avidime, the Chief Medical Director of Reference Hospital, and his team for their exceptional contributions to the facility.
Prof. Avidime, acknowledging the significance of medical and nursing education within the Reference Hospital’s mandate, assured the college management team that the hospital is fully equipped with modern amenities to facilitate effective medical and nursing training. He outlined the hospital’s well-established clinical departments, advanced diagnostic units, and laboratories.
As the hospital’s services expand, including the intake of in-patients, Prof. Avidime extended a warm welcome to nursing students for practical postings, emphasizing the commitment of Governor Yahaya Bello to advancing healthcare in Kogi State. He praised the recent upgrade of the institution to a college of nursing and applauded the provision of additional amenities.
The visiting management team from the college included Mrs. Momoh A. Barikisu (Deputy Provost), Mr. Usman Audu Reuben (Registrar), Mr. John M. Adeniyi (College Librarian), Mr. Yusuf Awwal (Director of Works), and Mrs. Sadiq Binta O. (College Public Relations Officer).
In an effort to showcase the hospital’s advanced facilities, Prof. Avidime personally guided the college management team on a tour of the hospital, providing them with insights into the cutting-edge medical equipment that has been integrated, marking the hospital’s progress toward 21st-century healthcare standards.
