President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made the decision to forgo any elaborate celebrations for his upcoming 72nd birthday on March 29, 2024, amidst the prevailing challenges faced by Nigeria. In a statement conveyed by his aide, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for reaching this significant milestone as a leader and statesman but emphasized the need for solemn reflection during these trying times.
Acknowledging the customary gestures of celebration from family, friends, and associates, President Tinubu opted to abstain from hosting or participating in any birthday events. In light of recent tragic events such as the loss of officers and men of the Army and Police in Delta State and escalating security breaches nationwide, he deemed it inappropriate to engage in festivities.
President Tinubu urged against the placement of birthday goodwill advertorials in newspapers, on radio, or television stations. Instead, he encouraged well-wishers to channel any intended contributions towards charitable organizations, reflecting his commitment to serving the nation’s interests even amidst personal milestones.
While expressing appreciation for the efforts of Nigeria’s armed forces in recent operations to free kidnapped children in Kaduna and Sokoto States, President Tinubu underscored the need for renewed dedication towards fostering stability, security, prosperity, and unity within Nigeria.
By opting for a subdued observance of his birthday, President Tinubu reaffirmed his unwavering focus on addressing the pressing challenges confronting the nation, demonstrating leadership and solidarity during these turbulent times.
