“WELCOME TO ADOGO IN AJAOKUTA KOGI STATE
Adogo is a name of a community originally coined from Ado kago, meaning let us settle here and see.
Ado kago (Adogo) is an Igala community which was founded by a group of Igalas many years as some sources reported they were already there even before the reign of Attah Ayegba Oma Idoko in 15th to 16th centuries.
Adogo is the head quarter of Ajokuta (Aja okuta, an Igala phrase meaning the gathering of stones or locations of where stones/rocks are found in many areas). The greeting of the traditional leader of Adogo is Onodukwu.
Onodukwu was a short form of One-odukwulu, that is “a complete human being or complete person”.
The greeting originated from the time their first king who was beaded by Attah Ayegba Oma Idoko present a thanksgiving of a person to the Attah to be his maid or servant in the palace.
Attah now used that reference as their king’s traditional greeting till today. This was also confirmed by a group of Adogo people during their visit to Attah Igala in Idah recently.
I was very happy to meet Mr Peter in a bus to Akure some days ago. “I am a pure Adogo Igala. We are all Igalas, though I no longer understand how to speak Igala language very well because I have been in Ondo here for many years now”, said Mr Peter. But is does that take Igala blood from him? No! And that is my point.
It was also reported that part them of later migrated to Adogu (Adogugu, meaning we will settle and sit or be stable here not to settle and see as in Adogo), also in Ajokuta local government.
And before I forget, from Lokoja (the first capital of the country, Nigeria, who has forgotten or intentionally abandoned her origin today), down to Ajokuta to Itobe and Kogi east were/are Igalaland.
Igala, unite and regain your position in this country named on our land, Lokoja.”
