During an Emergency National Management Committee Meeting held in Kaduna on Sunday, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) made several significant decisions, including the expulsion of its Vice President for North Central, Comrade Muktar Akosile, and five others.
The council also declared the award of Grand Commander Of The Nigerian Youths (GCNY) bestowed upon former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State as invalid, citing it as a fraudulent act carried out by individuals purporting to represent NYCN.
These resolutions were reached following deliberations at the meeting, where it was emphasized that while Bello remains recognized as the Doyen Of the Nigerian Youths, the GCNY title is constitutionally reserved exclusively for the President of Nigeria. Therefore, conferring it upon a former governor was deemed misleading and inappropriate.
Furthermore, NYCN expressed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna, and the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim. Additionally, the Minister of State for Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, and the SSA to Tinubu on Youth Initiatives, Monitoring, and Delivery, Hon. Titilope Gbadamosi, received votes of confidence from the council.
The meeting also passed “a vote of implicit confidence” on the current leadership of NYCN, led by Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe. This decision came in response to an attempt by seven out of the 25 members of the National Executive Council (NEC) to illegally suspend Sara-Igbe and his deputy, Comrade Innocent Nduanya, prompting the convening of the emergency management meeting.
The resolutions underscore NYCN’s commitment to upholding integrity and ensuring that awards and recognitions are conferred in accordance with established protocols and regulations.
