In a significant development, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the regulatory body overseeing Nigeria’s 261 universities, has granted approval for 25 courses at the newly established Kogi State University in Kabba.

This crucial step sets the stage for the initiation of student admissions, signaling the imminent commencement of academic activities at the institution.

The announcement was made by His Royal Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of the Okun Area Traditional Council, during a special thanksgiving service held at ECWA Church in Kabba.

According to Oba Owoniyi, Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello has conveyed that construction work is underway at the university campus to prepare for the commencement of academic activities.

The Governor has reportedly assured the traditional ruler of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the smooth take-off of the institution before the new government assumes office next month.

To support this commitment, the Governor has allocated a special monthly fund of N200 million for the university, with immediate disbursement already in progress. Furthermore, Governor Bello has pledged ongoing support for the university beyond the conclusion of his tenure.

The establishment of Kogi State University in Kabba is seen as a strategic response to the educational aspirations of the Okunland community, addressing the longstanding demand for higher education in the region.

Oba Owoniyi appealed to stakeholders to rally behind the institution, fostering an environment that will enable it to excel among its peers. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Okun people for maintaining peace in Okunland before, during, and after the recent governorship election in the state.

The approval of courses by the NUC marks a crucial milestone for Kogi State University, Kabba, opening doors for educational opportunities and advancement in the region.
