The Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mallam Mele Kyari, has announced that the $2.5 billion Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and stations project is now at an impressive 80% completion.
Speaking at the AKK segment 2 project site in Kano, Kyari, who was represented by the Executive Vice-President of Gas, Power, and New Energy of NNPCL, expressed confidence that the entire project will be successfully delivered by the end of 2024.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu has given his approval to ensure the project remains on schedule. Beyond its economic benefits, the project is expected to revitalize many of the ailing industries in the country, contributing to Nigeria’s economic prosperity.
Regarding the Kano segment of the AKK project, specifically the Hadejia river crossing site at Tambuwa Zaria road in Kano, the GMD provided an update, stating that this portion of the project is currently at 55% completion and is progressing as planned.
Kyari emphasized the importance of safety and urged the project team to prioritize it. He also encouraged them to uphold the NNPCL’s new mantra, focusing on effective delivery, quality, and performance, as these factors will be crucial in bringing more prosperity to Nigeria. The message from Mr. President and the NNPCL leadership is clear: the project must be completed by 2024.
“The AKK gas pipeline project is not just a construction endeavor; it represents a significant economic enhancement program for Nigeria. It holds the potential to rejuvenate the industries that have faced challenges in recent times,” Kyari explained.
The project contractor, Wong Huo, also pledged to complete the AKK segment 2, which includes the critical Hadejia Jam’are River crossing site at Tamburawa Town in Kano State. With the project at its current level of completion, Nigeria is on the cusp of a significant milestone that promises to bring economic growth and revitalization to the nation.
