Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, has announced a N20 million bounty on two wanted kidnappers, Dahiru Adamu and Abu Ibrahim, who have been causing terror in the nation’s capital.
During a meeting with the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, Wike ordered law enforcement officers to track down the kidnappers, dead or alive. He made this declaration while addressing the media during the parade of 23 criminal suspects at the FCT Police Command Headquarters in Garki, Abuja.
Wike emphasized that his administration is committed to eliminating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of FCT residents. He urged the police to intensify efforts to apprehend the wanted criminals, offering a substantial reward for any information leading to their capture.
The suspects, identified as Usman Muhazu, Aliyu Muhammed, Auwal Lahiru, Rabiu Sani, Madina Abubakar, Jonah Elimelechi, and Saminu Idris, were arrested by a joint team of operatives from the Utako Divisional Headquarters and the Anti-Kidnapping team. They were apprehended in Pyankasa, Tudun Wada, and Ketti village, FCT, in connection with the abduction of 14 individuals.
CP Igweh confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects are part of a notorious kidnapping gang responsible for several criminal activities in the FCT. However, two key members of the gang, Dahiru Adamu and Abu Ibrahim, are still at large. Their wives were apprehended while attempting to collect a N9 million ransom on their behalf.
In addition to the kidnapping suspects, a total of 23 individuals were arrested, and significant items, including ₦9 million, six AK-47 rifles, bulletproof vests, and a locally-made walkie-talkie, were recovered from them.
The FCT Police Command has been relentless in its efforts to combat criminality in the region. Recent operations have led to the neutralization of notorious bandits and the arrest of armed robbery suspects involved in one-chance activities.
Wike’s decision to offer a substantial bounty for information on the wanted kidnappers reflects the government’s determination to rid the FCT of criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of residents.
