President Tinubu Takes Swift Action: Minister Betta Edu Suspended Pending Investigation

President Bola Tinubu has acted decisively by suspending Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, from office with immediate effect. The suspension, aimed at upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the administration of the nation’s resources, was confirmed in a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

In light of these developments, President Tinubu has directed the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to initiate a thorough investigation into all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as related agencies. The suspended Minister has been instructed to hand over her duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry and cooperate fully with the investigative authorities.

Additionally, a panel led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance has been established to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture of the social investment programmes. This panel aims to reform relevant institutions and programs, addressing institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and regaining public confidence in the initiative.

These directives take immediate effect, reflecting President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards in governance and ensuring accountability for the welfare of the Nigerian people.
