The Kogi state government has initiated a new environmental management endeavor titled ‘Operation Clean the City’ to address sanitation issues across the state.

Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun, the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, unveiled the project during a visit to the International Market and Nataco axis of the state capital, where he emphasized the administration’s zero-tolerance stance towards uncleanliness.

Under the leadership of Governor Usman Ododo, the government has declared a state of emergency in environmental management, signaling its commitment to enforcing cleanliness standards. Oluwasegun emphasized that indiscriminate dumping of refuse, particularly in water channels, will no longer be tolerated, and stern sanctions will be imposed on offenders.

Furthermore, the Commissioner affirmed that the ‘Operation Clean the City’ initiative will extend to grassroots communities, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sanitation across the state.

Mallam Jibril Saidu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, commended the appointment of Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun as Commissioner, lauding him as a diligent and dedicated individual whose leadership is a positive step towards achieving the state’s environmental management goals.
