The Kogi state government has announced plans to establish a task force dedicated to inspecting, monitoring, and evaluating basic and secondary schools across the state. This initiative aims to ensure the progress and quality of education delivery in these institutions.
The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, disclosed this during an impromptu visit to several schools in Dekina Local Government Area. Among the schools visited were Our Lady of Schools in Anyigba, Government Science School in Egume, Ajiolo Community Secondary School in Ajiolo Ojiaji, Government Secondary School Odu, and Government Science Secondary School in Odu Okpeiyigede.
Hon. Jones emphasized that while the state has previously prioritized tertiary institutions, it is now turning its attention to primary and secondary education. He highlighted the importance of ensuring a strong foundation at these levels to sustain higher education institutions adequately.
The Commissioner underscored the need for comprehensive monitoring, evaluation, and assessment of schools as the next phase of educational administration in the state. He stressed that investing in basic and secondary education is crucial for supplying students to tertiary institutions effectively.
To achieve this goal, a task force comprising individuals at the local government levels will be deployed to conduct physical assessments of schools across the state. Hon. Jones emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding the education system from any form of disruption, emphasizing that compromising the system would jeopardize the future of the state.
During his visit to Our Lady of Schools in Anyigba, the Commissioner commended the dedication of the Principal and staff and urged them to maintain discipline and commitment to their duties.
In response, the principal expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for his commitment to quality education in the state and pledged to collaborate with the government in ensuring that children have access to excellent educational opportunities.
