Governor Yahaya Bello has expressed his appreciation for the judges of the Appeal Court who upheld the removal of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, as the Senator representing Kogi Central.
Following a Police Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa on Tuesday, Governor Bello spoke with State House correspondents, affirming his acceptance of the Appeal Court’s ruling, which recognized Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected senator.
The Governor extended his congratulations to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and all those who participated in the democratic process, characterizing this development as the “essence of democracy.”

“I have received news of the Court of Appeal’s decision nullifying the election of Senator Abubakar Sadiq Ohere and confirming Barrister Natasha Akpoti as the Senator representing Kogi Central. I accept this decision.
“As the Governor of the state and a leader in my own party, the All Progressives Congress, I would naturally prefer not to lose any seat to an opposition party in Kogi state. Nevertheless, both Natasha and Engr. Abubakar Sadiq Ohere are my siblings. We all hail from the same senatorial district, share the same tribe and heritage. I take this opportunity once more to urge everyone in Kogi Central to embrace this decision, work in harmony with all elected members of the national and state assembly, and together, let us drive the progress of our dear senatorial district, our state, and the nation.
“I commend the wisdom of those who made this decision. I am grateful for all the processes that have led to today’s decision. We, the people of Kogi Central, and of Kogi state, will continue to stand united.
“We have a larger objective ahead of us, which is the gubernatorial election on November 11, 2023, a contest we are determined to win convincingly. Let us not be distracted. Keep your focus and ensure that our campaign is smooth, our election is free from violence, and our victory is resounding,” he stated.
Governor Bello urged all residents of Kogi Central senatorial district to accept the court’s decision.
