In a recent announcement, the Federal Government has issued a directive requiring all international airlines to vacate the premises of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) by October 1, 2023. This step has been taken to facilitate comprehensive maintenance work at the airport.
The statement was released by Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during his visit to the international airports in Lagos. Accompanying him on this visit was Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed, the Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The minister, while addressing the media during the airport tour, outlined the new policy. He emphasized that all airlines and associated companies currently operating within MMIA should transition to the new terminal, MMIA Terminal 2, before the specified deadline of October 1.
Furthermore, Minister Keyamo has temporarily suspended all ongoing contracts, projects, and concessions within the aviation sector, pending further notice.
