Do you need a degree to become a real estate agent in Nigeria?

It is always beneficial when you have great knowledge of what you want to become. Having a degree in finance, marketing or business subjects makes you appear a professional before your clients because real estate agency is formally built around business practices, financing and contracts.

I won’t discourage you not to try because I know many real estate agents who are not degree holders and yet they excel in the business. So, even if you can’t attain a degree at the moment, at least have a quality educational background, have a basic knowledge of what real estate is all about, be good at business ideas and have marketing strategies. Let’s get down to the next one.

What are the requirements involved in becoming a real estate agent in Nigeria?

Aside registering the company’s name and opening an office depending on your budget, there are no other special requirements involved. Note that having an office and registering the company’s name is not mandatory but if you want to be taken seriously by your clients or if you wants to be rated as a professional, then those things are very important.

However, in order to become a real estate agent in Nigeria, you will need the following special requirements and they are; Sales skills, negotiating skills, networking skills and the ability to think deeply.

What is the commission or salary of a real estate agent in Nigeria?

How to become a real estate agent in Nigeria

Based on my experience and research so far, real estate agents don’t have a fixed commission. Some of their payments are exclusive, for example (A real estate agent can decided to charge 10% or 20% commission; that is, if the cost of a house is N250,000, as an agent, if you charge 10% of the actual payment, you will have a gain of N25,000 but if you are charging 20%, you will have N50,000 as your agency fee).

But for agents whose payments are inclusive, their deals are with the property owners not the clients. That is; you will negotiate your agency fee with the property owners alongside the fixed price of the property. Once you have a client, your own is to use your marketing strategy to persuade the buyer to purchase it at your given price, you will have your share and the owner will have his/her shares too.

Now that I am done answering your questions, let’s get down to the exclusive guides on How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Nigeria.
