On Wednesday, gunmen attacked a bus traveling from Edo State to Abuja and kidnapped several passengers near Okene in Kogi State. The bus, operated by Big Joe Motors, had a capacity of 13 passengers, though the exact number of those kidnapped remains unclear.
David Aiguobagbon, a manager with Big Joe Motors’ Abuja branch, confirmed the incident. He stated that some passengers managed to escape and the exact number of abductees is still uncertain. The driver of the bus was among those kidnapped. Despite efforts to contact the driver, his phone, which was operational on Wednesday, was found switched off the following morning.
The company has reported the incident to the police, and one of its managers is currently in Kogi State to assist with the investigation. Aiguobagbon urged the families of the kidnapped passengers to be patient and to contact the company if they receive any ransom demands.
Chidi Uwabuzor, the police spokesperson in Edo State, directed inquiries to his counterpart in Kogi State, acknowledging that the incident falls under Kogi’s jurisdiction.
