A group has donated a Mathematics and ICT Centre worth N30 million to Victory College in Ilafin Community, Kogi State, in memory of the renowned educationist, late Pa Joseph Owoeye.
The donation was officially handed over shortly after Pa Owoeye’s interment over the weekend. Peter Owoeye, the son of the deceased, announced that in addition to the ICT centre, an educational foundation would be established to continue his father’s vision for education. This foundation will partner with federal and state education ministries to organize an annual Mathematics quiz competition, encouraging students to pursue Mathematics beyond secondary school.
Dr. Giotane Tambawa, one of the initiators of the ICT centre, emphasized the importance of honoring Pa Owoeye, who dedicated his life to serving humanity. Tambawa, despite being from Plateau State, admired Pa Owoeye’s legacy and collaborated with his children to ensure his contributions to education are remembered.
His Royal Highness, Oba Babatunde Etonbi, the Agbana of Isanlu, commended the late Pa Owoeye’s selfless service to the Isanlu land and Ilafin community. He assured that measures are being taken to secure the new facilities for the benefit of the community.
Similarly, Professor Salisu Usman, Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, announced plans to immortalize Pa Owoeye for his significant contributions to the institution. Speaking at a service of songs in Lokoja, Usman praised the late educationist’s impact on the Polytechnic’s growth and development.
The final burial of Pa Joseph O. Owoeye in Ilafin-Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area, was attended by dignitaries from various walks of life, underscoring his widespread influence and legacy.
