Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has lauded the residents of Lokoja and Kupa for their peaceful conduct during the selection processes of their new traditional leaders. The commendation came as the Governor presented the staff of office to Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Markarfi IV, the newly installed Maigari of Lokoja, and Alhaji Dauda Kabir Isah, the Maiyaki of Kupa, in a ceremony held in Lokoja on Friday.
During the presentation, Governor Bello urged the traditional rulers to uphold peace, unity, and cohesion in their respective communities. He emphasized the importance of rallying the people together for the common goals of prosperity, growth, safety, and security.
Governor Bello reflected on the past 8 years, highlighting that during his tenure, the state witnessed the installation of over six paramount rulers without any disputes or disagreements. He acknowledged that despite various speculations surrounding vacant positions, his government successfully navigated and resolved such issues amicably.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Lokoja for their consistent support throughout his leadership, Governor Bello assured that his successor would build upon the foundations laid by his administration. He called on the newly installed royal fathers to extend their support to the incoming governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, emphasizing that it represents a continuation of his government.
Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Markarfi IV, the Maigari of Lokoja, conveyed his appreciation during the vote of thanks on behalf of the traditional rulers. He expressed gratitude to God, the state governor, and all those who contributed to the success of the day. The Maigari pledged to focus on promoting security, safety, tourism, and actively contributing to the urbanization plan of the state capital, Lokoja.
Highlighting the commitment of the traditional institution to collaborate with the government and private stakeholders, he emphasized their dedication to fast-tracking landmark development and progress in their respective regions.
