The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State has announced the deployment of over 600 personnel, including Special Marshals, for the 2024 Easter Special Patrol Operation across the state.
This deployment, as disclosed by Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, includes 18 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, and one heavy tow truck. The aim is to ensure a smooth and accident-free Easter celebration in the region.
The deployment aligns with the operational order from the FRSC national headquarters, emphasizing enhanced visibility of corps personnel on highways during the festive period. Oyedeji urged all road users to conduct themselves responsibly, reflecting on the significance of the Easter season.
Enforcement efforts during this period will prioritize issues such as speeding, dangerous driving/overtaking, installation of speed limit devices, lane discipline, road obstructions, use of phones while driving, seat belt violations, child restraint use violations, and passenger manifest violations, among others.
The FRSC will provide prompt rescue services, traffic calming measures, prompt removal of obstructions, and public education/enlightenment. Additionally, mobile court sessions will be conducted to enforce road traffic laws and regulations.
Oyedeji emphasized the FRSC’s commitment to achieving a five percent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries in 2024 through effective enforcement, enlightenment, and collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders.
Motorists embarking on Easter travel are urged to exercise caution and avoid behaviors that could endanger lives. The FRSC reiterated its stance against reckless driving, emphasizing its dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property during and after the Easter period.
The public was encouraged to utilize the FRSC call center via the toll-free line 122 or report emergencies to the nearest FRSC office in Kogi. The special operation commenced on Thursday, with the FRSC extending warm wishes for a happy and safe Easter celebration to all Christian faithful.
