The management of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has suspended a lecturer from the Department of English and Literary Studies following allegations of sexual harassment involving a 300-level student from the same department. The university has established a committee to promptly investigate the matter.
In a press statement, the university detailed the incident, stating that the allegations were brought to their attention after a Senate meeting. The student’s parents brought the matter to the university’s premises, leading to immediate action by the administration.
“The University Management, ably led by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, recognizes the gravity of the situation and is committed to handling it in the most decisive, transparent, and timely manner. Our institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offences and frowns at such randy behaviour by any category of staff,” the statement read.
The Senate of FUL is actively investigating the allegations, assuring the university community and the public of a thorough and swift response. A Senate committee has been formed to investigate and provide recommendations to the management within 24 hours.
The accused lecturer has been referred to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further action. The university management emphasizes its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students and staff.
