The Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has issued a directive for a rigorous crackdown on vehicles lacking proper number plates or those with only a single number plate traveling on FCT roads. The announcement was made by the police public relations officer in the territory, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.
CP Igweh addressed the matter during a meeting with the management team, leaders of tactical units, and heads of departments within the FCT Police Command, including area commanders and DPOs. The purpose of the meeting was to enhance the current security framework and initiate measures to safeguard the residents of the FCT.
Emphasizing the need for a proactive approach to security, Mr. Igweh encouraged senior police officers to adopt intelligence-led and visibility policing. Regular stop-and-search operations were highlighted as a key strategy to effectively combat criminal activities in the region.
Warning against laxity, the CP urged the heads of tactical units to identify black spots and possible kidnappers’ dens and take the fight to them. Additionally, he called on area commanders and DPOs to foster effective community partnerships in policing the FCT.
Expressing the command’s commitment to combating criminality in the FCT, Mr. Igweh called on residents to collaborate with the police.
