Tragedy struck on the Abuja-Lokoja highway as a fatal accident resulted in the loss of two lives and left four others with varying degrees of burns. The incident occurred around 2:15 am last Thursday at Kwaita village, involving a J5 Peugeot bus with registration number FST 84 TXE and an unmarked DAF trailer.
According to an eyewitness, the accident transpired when the J5 bus, traveling at high speed from the Gwagwalada axis, collided with the moving trailer, leading to a fiery inferno. The impact of the collision rendered the driver of the bus and one other passenger trapped inside the engulfed vehicle.
Regrettably, the two trapped individuals succumbed to their injuries and were burnt beyond recognition. Meanwhile, emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) promptly arrived at the scene. They managed to rescue four other victims who sustained various degrees of burns and immediately transported them to the hospital for medical attention.
A senior FRSC official from the Yangoji Unit Command, who opted to remain anonymous, confirmed the tragic incident, reiterating that two individuals lost their lives, while four others suffered injuries. The accident underscores the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and exercising caution while traveling on highways to prevent such devastating occurrences.
