Kogi State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, has urged Nigerian youths to refrain from participating in protests, specifically the proposed #EndBadGovernance protest. He advised them to channel their energy into more productive activities that would benefit them, their families, and the nation. Speaking to journalists in Lokoja on Friday, Fanwo emphasized the importance of rejecting the protest to maintain sustainable peace and development.
Fanwo suggested that instead of protesting, youths should focus on agricultural activities to boost food security and the nation’s GDP. He stressed that the government could not afford another round of protests that might lead to looting and destruction, as the nation has not yet fully recovered from the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests. Although acknowledging that protesting is a fundamental human right, Fanwo described those advocating for it as enemies of the country. He also conveyed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s stance that Kogi State would not support such demonstrations.
The Commissioner assured that the government and security agencies are on high alert to prevent any destructive protests. He stated that the motives behind the protest are selfish and political. He highlighted the government’s focus on continuing the economic and agricultural initiatives started by former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Fanwo reiterated that Kogi State is not in favor of any protests that could destabilize its peace. He urged the youths to participate in the #NotInMyState movement and called on parents to monitor their children to ensure they do not engage in any protests. He acknowledged that the country is not yet where it needs to be but expressed confidence in the efforts of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the nation towards progress.
