Pensioners in Kogi State have fervently appealed to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration for inclusion in the distribution of palliatives, seeking respite from the economic hardships they endure. Clement Ohida, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), conveyed this plea during a recent interview, emphasizing the pressing need for relief packages to alleviate their suffering amidst soaring inflation rates affecting all Nigerians, regardless of occupation or status.
Expressing the severity of the situation, Ohida highlighted the insufficiency of pension payments to cover monthly expenses, particularly at the local government level where payments often amount to mere percentages. He underscored the critical importance of government intervention, citing past assistance and expressing confidence in the present administration’s commitment to further support pensioners in Kogi State.
In addition to immediate economic relief, Ohida called upon the Kogi State Government to address longstanding issues such as the backlog of gratuities and the harmonization of pensioners’ benefits. He urged both Christian and Muslim pensioners to unite and uphold their faith’s principles during these challenging times.
The appeal reflects the collective struggle of Kogi’s pensioners, underscoring the need for concerted efforts to improve their welfare and ensure their financial security in the face of ongoing economic challenges.
