Several individuals were feared to have lost their lives during a confrontation between farmers and herdsmen in Isanlu, the administrative center of Yagba East local government area of Kogi State on Sunday evening.
The violent clash originated from the killing of a farmer who was ambushed while en route to his farmland on Friday.
Hon. Abdulrazaq Ijagbemi, the chairman of Yagba East local government area, confirmed the incident and provided details. He stated that a group of herdsmen attacked the farmer while he was heading to his farm, resulting in his death.
According to the chairman, the tragic sequence of events began when the herder’s cattle encroached upon the farmer’s farmland, causing destruction. In response, the farmer apprehended one of the cows and reported the incident to the police.

Tragically, while attempting to retrieve the cow, the farmer and his brother fell into an ambush set by some Fulani men. The brother managed to escape and alerted the community members about the dire situation.
Despite efforts made by local hunters and villagers, the farmer’s mutilated body was discovered in the bush after two days. The incident has left the community in grief and heightened tensions between farmers and herders in the area.
