The Kogi State All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council has urged law enforcement agencies to promptly arrest Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, and his supporters for their alleged involvement in the recent attack on the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in the state.

The APC Campaign Council accuses Ajaka and his supporters of orchestrating the attack, which reportedly involved a fierce gun battle with security agents and the burning of vehicles in the commissioner’s residence and surrounding areas. The incident follows the APC’s earlier warning about SDP thugs planning to attack INEC.

Kingsley Fanwo, the Director of Media and Publicity/Spokesperson for the Campaign Council, stated in an emergency press briefing that the SDP’s motive is to destroy certain INEC documents related to the alleged heist in Kogi East. The APC claims that the SDP, in collaboration with others, aims to manipulate these documents to cover up crimes committed during the election.

Fanwo emphasized the party’s commitment to allowing legal teams access to documents but warned against tampering with the true electoral verdict. He linked the violence to the lack of consequences over the killing of an APC supporter in Kotonkarfe, accusing Ajaka of freely moving despite allegations of involvement in the crime.

The APC spokesperson also commended security agencies for protecting the INEC office in Lokoja and highlighted the thwarted attempts to burn down the Kogi State Government House and APC Secretariat.

In conclusion, Fanwo called for the immediate arrest of Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, asserting that the violence and attacks on democratic processes must not be tolerated. The APC urges supporters to remain calm while emphasizing the need for swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the unrest.
