Captain J.O. Abalaka of the Nigerian Army (N/15198) has successfully regained freedom after disarming a member of the kidnap gang that abducted him in Kogi State.
Captain Abalaka was abducted last week along the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road while traveling to his new post at the operational headquarters of the Maiduguri Command in Borno State from 29 Battalion, Port Harcourt. The incident occurred as he was driving his Toyota Corolla, accompanied by his dog.
During the ambush, the kidnappers intercepted and abducted several travelers, including Captain Abalaka. Demonstrating exceptional courage, Captain Abalaka managed to disarm one of the kidnappers, who was armed with an AK-47.
The captain then engaged the other kidnappers, ultimately rescuing himself, his dog, and the other abducted victims. He recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, a magazine, and five 9mm ammunition rounds from the kidnappers.
According to a military signal, the recovered weapons and ammunition have been handed over to the Army Headquarters Garrison for further action.
