In a significant development, all 14 passengers who were abducted by gunmen at Inele Eteke, Olalamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, have been successfully freed.
The news was confirmed by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye, during a conversation on Thursday evening. He stated that the DPO informed him of the release of all the kidnapped victims from the God is Good Motors (GIG) and ABC transport companies.
The passengers were abducted on Saturday, February 3, 2024, when armed bandits hijacked two buses belonging to GIG and ABC transport companies. The group of gunmen abducted a total of 14 passengers and took them to an undisclosed location.
Initial reports indicated that 12 passengers were traveling with God is Good Motors, while ABC transport had two passengers onboard at the time of the abduction.
Following the abduction, the families of the victims were contacted by the abductors, who demanded a ransom of N15 million for their release.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the ransom was paid prior to the release of the abductees. Nonetheless, the successful liberation of the passengers brings relief and hope to their families and the community affected by this harrowing ordeal.
